WHAT ARE WE DOING?
Thousands of years ago the natives thrived in the South American territories.
Through ancient wisdom and spiritual guidance, nature provided for all their needs. This is how they found yerba mate, and discovered all of the herb’s beneficial properties. They used it for nutrition, energy, and in their ceremonies, when asking for wisdom and guidance. They also became experts in the identification and application of herbs and medicinal plants for healing; always thanking and respecting the different herbal powers and the gifts received from them.
As a child i was brought up with herbal cures and natural medicines. Now, I see how we have become hostages of a medical system which has gotten out of control, where in many cases the patient is not the priority, and treating has become more profitable than curing…
It is our mission to bring back ancient native wisdom and hope that it helps many others just like centuries past, when a doctor’s intervention was a last resort. We provide healthy natural drinks, like yerba mate, and a variety of herbal health teas for different ailments.
We are very pleased to learn about the descendants of native groups, finding each other and gathering to recover traditions, languages and knowledge that was once thought lost. We all benefit from the natives’ ancient wisdom.
Our store offers the best available natural products. Our goal is to return to Nature, which has always provided for our health and well being.
YUYERO
My great-great grandmother was raised in the 1800’s in the remote countryside of South America. A territory that started out being called la Banda Oriental, originally encompassing Uruguay and portions of Argentina and Brazil. She grew up on a secluded ranch, in the middle of major changes in history. As a child I had the privilege of meeting my great-great grandmother. This energetic matriarch with platinum hair lived 102 years on this Earth!
In those days the Spaniards, Portuguese and British were in the process of conquering and decimating the native populations, their wisdom and culture. The ranch where she lived was a constant background for soldiers, gauchos, and natives passing through. Sometimes persecuting and sometimes being persecuted.
There was no running water, electricity or telephone. Their food supply came from the earth in the form of animals and crops. The majority of their medicine was supplied by nature, in the form of herbs and medicinal plants (yuyos).
Back then a person could not depend on a doctor. They were a rare commodity and by the time someone on horseback rode the long distances to find one, it was usually too late. Natural remedies and treatment with herbs for all possible ailments were an absolute necessity for self sufficiency and survival. Prevention was crucial. The yuyero played a key role as a supplier and teacher of applications of the different yuyos in those days.
The seasons were very influential in availability since medicinal herbs grow at different times of the year. This made the yuyero conduct a nomadic lifestyle, having to travel most of the time to different locations. During these travels, he visited the ranches along the way, where he was always well received with mate and food.
His trade is based on native knowledge from the ancestors and spiritual guidance. This knowledge was passed down from generation to generation mostly by word of mouth and hands on instruction.
Sure, we have all the latest technologies, advances in medicine and nutrition, but … When is the yuyero coming around?
New location in the Pacific Northwest!
